Metals 101
10kt Yellow Gold
When you are buying gold jewelry you will readily see it in 10kt, 14kt and 18kt gold. I knew I wanted to have my jewelry cast in 10kt because it is the most durable + affordable of all the ‘solid golds’ (golds that will never tarnish) + since this is everyday jewelry those qualities were most important to me.
Don’t worry, if you are partial to white gold, 14kt, 18kt or platinum, we can do that. See the custom page.
Sterling silver is a great choice when buying jewelry; it is a solid and affordable metal. Silver can tarnish, but that’s not a problem if you understand how it works + how to care for it. Sterling silver is an alloy that contains metals that react to chemicals in the air and can produce tarnish. High moisture levels, sunlight and contaminants such as salt water increase this reaction. Store sterling silver in a cool, dry, dark place to prevent tarnish. Using the pouch your jewelry comes in is a great place to store it + using the polishing cloth included in your purchase will keep your sterling looking great.
